This page will discuss a few plugins for SketchUp that I have found useful.

Download the plugins and the install it using SketchUp > Window >Preferences > Extension > Install Extension

 

SketchUp STL

With this plugin you will have the capability to export the model in *.stl format which will enablke it to be imported into 3D printer's software and hence be printed.

Once installed ...

You will find it under File > Export STL

Also you can import STL files into SketchUp as a group using File > import ...

 

Solid Inspector2

With this plugin you will be able to analyse and repair minor problems with the model. It is a very useful plugin for beginners. Once installed you will find it under tools menu as "Solid Inspector". You can also bring it up by selecting it in the "toolbar" under "view" menu

 

Place shapes toolbar

This plugin has simple 3D shapes like sphere, cone, cube etc.

 

Curve Maker

You can make different types of curves.  It will appear under extensions menu as "Curve Maker".

 

Washers, Nuts and Bolts

You can make these components easily with this plugin. Once installed you will find it under Tools menu as "EP Fastners and holes"

 

Building with BuildEdge Pro

With this plugin you can construct a home very quickly. It will appear under extensions menu as "Build Edge Pro".

Building with Dibac

With this plugin you can construct a home very quickly. It will appear under extensions menu as "Dibac".

 

Draw Onion Dome

Dome like the one on top of Taj Mahal will be so easy to make with this plugin. Once installed it appears under "Draw" menu bar option.

 

Construction Line

It is the dotted line that you may need in your drawings. This plugin converts the solid line into construction line.

First delete all guides and then convert the solid line to construction line.

Hiding the Guides will not be helpful as it will hide the construction line too that you converted from solid line.

 

Shape Bender (YouTube)

Once installed this will appear under extensions menu as "Chris Fullmer tool" > "Shape Bender".

Select the Component to bend, Activate shape Bender, Activate the line, Select the Curve that the shape is to follow

You will notice that a wireframe of the curves component will be drawn on the curve.

Check that Start and End are on the desired side or use Up and DOWN arrow keys to switch them around

Click enter to finalise the bending

 

Upright Extruder (Youtube)

You will need to install a Library TT_Lib2. Installing library is very easy.

Once you install the plugin you will get the message with the link to install the library.

Just click and agree to install.

Now go to View menu and click on Toolbars and tick the checkbox next to "Upright Extruder" 

 

Round Corner (Installation using Sketchucation tool is recommended)

Requires a library too (LibFredo6)

After you have downloaded and installed Sketchucation tool, go into the SketchUp and select Plugin and then click on Sketchucation Plugin Store.

A new window will open which has a search facility. Search for "RoundCorner"

Once found, click on install

You will find this plugin in Tools > Fredo6 Collection > RoundCorner

Also search and install "FredoScale"

You will find this plugin in Tools > Fredo6 Collection > FredoScale

Also search and install "FredoTools"

You will find all these plugins in Tools > Fredo Tools > ... 

(Note: You may have to restart SketchUp for these plugins to appear)
